2021 Mayfield Kentucky Tornados

On December 10, 2021, a violent EF4 tornado moved across Western Kentucky, causing severe damage in numerous towns, including Mayfield. The tornado was the deadliest and longest-tracked in an outbreak that produced numerous strong tornadoes in several states; 57 fatalities were confirmed.

The RAPID Facility deployed staff and instrumentation to support StEER reconnaissance efforts in Mayfield, KY, following the deadly tornado. These efforts focused on evaluating timber frame constructions and the function of foundation anchoring. Instrumentation included a mapping and surveying drone.
