Camp Wildfire
The Camp Fire was a devastating wildfire that broke out in Northern California in November 2018, becoming the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state's history. The fire destroyed over 18,000 structures and claimed the lives of 85 people while also causing widespread environmental and economic damage in the region.
To support OSU Assistant Professor Erica Fischer’s research team, RAPID deployed staff and instrumentation — including the DJI Matrice 210 drone, the BLK360 lidar scanner, and the Applied Streetview — to Paradise, CA, to survey hospitals and schools that had been affected by the Camp Wildfire. The objective was to collect data on engineered buildings’ wildfire performance and any effective mitigation performed before the wildfire.
A year after the Camp Wildfire in Paradise, CA, the Applied Streetview system returned to OSU Assistant Professor Erica Fischer’s research team to collect follow-up data on the performance of engineered buildings after the event.
