2019 6.4 Mw Ridgecrest Earthquake Series

The Ridgecrest earthquakes were a pair of powerful earthquakes that struck near Ridgecrest, California, in July 2019, with magnitudes of 6.4 and 7.1. The earthquakes caused significant damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure in the area and resulted in several injuries but no fatalities. The Ridgecrest earthquakes were the most significant to hit the region in decades.

In support of a GEER team, RAPID deployed two technicians and instrumentation — including DJI Matrice 210 drones and Leica GS18T GPS receivers — to Ridgecrest, CA, following the earthquakes that occurred on July 4 and July 5, 2019. The researchers collected aerial imagery of the fault ruptures to create orthomosaics and DSM models.

A year after the Camp Wildfire in Paradise, CA, the Applied Streetview system returned to OSU Assistant Professor Erica Fischer’s research team to collect follow-up data on the performance of engineered buildings after the event.
