In 2020, Oregon experienced one of its most devastating wildfire seasons in recent history, with over 1 million acres burned and numerous communities evacuated. The fires, exacerbated by a combination of drought, high winds, and lightning strikes, caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure throughout the state.

RAPID staff deployed to Finn Rock, OR, to support a GEER project led by Josh Roering, a professor at the University of Oregon. The project used various drones and the Maptek XR3 (extra long-range scanner) to acquire time-sensitive data to characterize and quantify post-fire debris flow potential in catchments, particularly those affected by the Beachie Creek, Lionshead, Holiday Farm, Archie Creek, and Eagle Creek fires.
