Lidar Survey of Waves

The use of aerial lidar to study waves is of interest to researchers as it provides a highly accurate and detailed method for measuring wave heights, shapes, and behaviors, which can improve our understanding of ocean dynamics, coastal hazards, and climate change impacts.

A RAPID team deployed to Lemoore, CA to study wave pattern data using the large-wave simulators at the Kelly Slater Surf Ranch. They used the RAPID Facility's miniranger drone lidar system and worked with a research team from UCSD and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
