Surfside Condo Collapse

The Surfside condo collapse in June 2021 prompted the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the tragedy, aiming to understand the structural failures and contributing factors to improve building safety standards and prevent future disasters.

RAPID staff and instrumentation — including drones and laser scanners — deployed to Surfside, FL, to assist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology investigation of the Champlain Towers South collapse.
